Ra’am leader Mansour Abbas is considering a political partnership with former deputy public security minister Yoav Segalovitz, an influential Yesh Atid member, ahead of Israel’s next election.
According to reports, Segalovitz has given preliminary approval to joining Ra’am, but the final decision rests with Abbas. The proposal has triggered opposition inside the party, where some members object to adding a Jewish candidate to the slate.
Abbas said Ra’am is currently focused on its August 22 party conference and internal elections. Any alliance or addition of independent candidates will be assessed afterward based on its political and electoral value.
He said future decisions must support Ra’am’s goals of replacing the current government, joining an alternative governing coalition, and addressing crime, violence, home demolitions and inequality in Arab communities.
A final decision is expected after the party conference later this month.
