Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem said the group is open to an official meeting with Syria’s new leadership, marking a shift in its public position toward Damascus.
Qassem said there was no objection to such talks and stressed that stability in Syria and Lebanon is mutually reinforcing. His remarks followed comments from Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, who said Damascus is coordinating with the Lebanese government to help preserve stability and prevent unrest from spilling across the border.
Qassem also backed the deployment of the Lebanese Army south of the Litani River, saying Hezbollah would support ongoing security arrangements with all available capabilities.
At the same time, he demanded a complete Israeli withdrawal from remaining positions in southern Lebanon.
Al-Sharaa separately reaffirmed that decisions over weapons, war and peace should belong exclusively to the Lebanese state and its armed forces, reflecting pressure to strengthen institutions.
